As part of Culture Night 2022 the Goethe-Institut is presenting the award-winning new film of the children’s crime and adventure series The Peppercorns.
The latest case for the Peppercorns takes 12-year-old Alice from Northern Ireland, where she is spending the summer with her friend Tarun and his marine-biologist mother Jaswinder, to the tranquil fishing village of Wesemünde. Jaswinder is working on an important research project aimed at reducing the plastic waste in the world’s oceans, but not everyone is thrilled by the success of her work. In Northern Ireland, someone not only steals important research documents but Jaswinder is also sent threatening e-mails – and then she simply disappears. The Peppercorns are sure she has been kidnapped, so they take up the search. Their suspicions soon fall on more than just the unscrupulous garbage mogul Fleckmann: Jaswinder’s assistant Patrizia and her colleague Oliver have also been behaving very oddly lately… An adventure for the entire family!

A film by Liz Roche Company.
Filmed in the Goethe-Institut in Dublin, “Näher” is a dance film that follows four lost souls as they move and gather in shared moments of remembrance, bringing life to haunted spaces new and old, evoking fleeting memories and suspended dreams. The film draws from the original production of “Näher… closer, nearer, sooner” commissioned by Goethe-Institut Irland on the occasion of its re-opening in 2018. It explored W.B. Yeats’ belief that the dead dream backwards through their lives. Journeying through the building, the choreography offered opportunities to dream back into the lives of the performers and share in their search for the moments of most meaning to them. Directed by Alan Gilsenan, choreographed by Liz Roche, co-created by Shane O’Reilly. 13 min, Ireland 2021.
Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and Dublin City Council.
