Spencer Dock - Zeztra

In Person

Dublin born singer/songwriters Avril and Lorna Meade form the powerful sister duo called Zeztra. Their unique captivating harmonies are the driving force behind their sound. Of course, being sisters, they have been singing and creating music together from a very young age, but it was only in 2019 that Zeztra formed. Opening for Maverick Sabre in the Academy Dublin on 30/03/2019 is where it all started to happen for Zeztra. From there, they went to tour around the UK and US performing on several of his shows including the classic venues ‘Brixton Academy’ London and ‘Rough Trade’ Brooklyn, New York. Working and writing together as sisters has allowed them to draw inspiration from different genres and come together to write lyrics that are inspired from both their lives. Zeztra honed their craft over the lockdown period, writing and recording new music inspired by a blend of different genres including pop, alt, rock, R&B and Latin music. Zeztra has created a collection of timeless ballads sung with blood harmonies, meaningful lyrics, uplifting and hopeful instrumentation. Zeztra’ s collaboration together has allowed them to experiment and use their voice as an instrument in their music. They plan to release new music and play as many gigs & festivals as 2023 allows!

Drop by Spencer Dock for a Canal Art workshop in decorative ropework delivered by Rosie O’Reilly & Louise Gambrill (both canal boat dwellers) for Culture Night 2022.

The decorative ropework tradition of canal boats evolved as a practical demand for objects like fenders, soft and resilient barriers between the boat and the lock or the quay wall, but also from the cultural practice of decorative arts associated with human evolution in space and place.

In Person

Culture Night Dublin is excited to platform motley collective Acid Granny. Armed with a shopping trolley soundsystem, Acid Granny devise surreal ambulatory performances in collaboration with passers by in the urban landscape of Dublin City. Sampling from overheard conversations and wielding a precarious assemblage of mini synths, drum machines and potato wedges, the outfit improvise happenings in public spaces which engage the immediate environment and reflect the condition of Dublin City today. These hypnagogic moments pose site-specific questions to the audience on themes of day-to-day life, folklore, urban legend, famous figures, and personal stories.
