Martin Luther expressed on numerous occasions that, next to theology, he accorded music the highest praise. From the outset of his Reformation, a distinctive musical tradition was developed. Music became accessible to all for the first time in western history: both at home for informal musical gatherings, called Hausmusik and as early as the 17th century, in subscription concert series, such as the Abendmusik series at St. Mary’s Church in Lübeck. The music of great Lutheran composers, especially that of J. S. Bach, continues to define and shape our cultural identity across the centuries and all nations. In this tradition, a range of different musicians associated with this venue will perform a wide variety of music for you to enjoy in our calm relaxing environment.
