St Patrick's Mental Health Services

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Jonathan Swift

In Person

St Patrick’s Mental Health Services is hosting an event to celebrate the legacy of their founder, Jonathan Swift. You will get the chance to see the many artefacts that SPMHS hold, including Swift’s own writing desk; embark on a tour of the historic building in the hospital; and hear more about the man himself throughout this interactive evening. Renowned as Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral and author of ‘Gulliver’s Travels’, Swift’s generosity and forward-thinking vision of a “home for fools and mad” left a lasting impact on mental healthcare in Ireland. Founded in 1746, St Patrick’s Hospital was one of the first mental health hospitals built in the world. Please note, this is a working hospital and therefore, this event may be moved online depending on the public health situation at the time.
