Each year, Trinity College Dublin takes the opportunity of Culture Night to reflect on its very special relationship with the late, great, comic fantasy author, Terry Pratchett. Pratchett was an adjunct lecturer at the College for some years, and his estate maintains a comprehensive research collection of his works and their translations in the Trinity College Library. This year, we are looking specifically at Pratchett’s advocacy for research and understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease. He donated a large sum of money to Alzheimer’s research and called on governments to do the same to “get this thing out of our hair”. We will bring together scientists working at the cutting edge of research on brain diseases like Alzheimer’s, asking how far we have come and how far we have yet to go.
